The 2021 International Economic and Trade Governance Forum was held in SUIBE on Oct. 22. About 150 representatives from universities, research institutes and enterprises from across the country, as well as experts, scholars and students of SUIBE attended the forum. Xu Mei, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China SUIBE committee, presided over the opening ceremony of the forum.
SUIBE President Wang Rongming delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. He pointed out that the forum was of remarkable significance, as an institute of the Network on International Trade and Investment System (NITIS) was officially established in SUIBE. The institute would be built into a top-notch research platform powered by ambassadors, diplomats and world-class scholars, and keep pace with the researches by international scholars, organizations and think tanks. Aiming to tell stories about China well and spread China's voice well, the institute will present China in an authentic, all-dimensional and comprehensive manner, Wang Rongming added.
He later awarded Yi Xiaozhun, former WTO Deputy Director-General, a letter of appointment, and inaugurated the NITIS institute.
Zhang Xiangchen, deputy director general of the WTO, Yi Xiaozhun, chief adviser of the NITIS institute in SUIBE, Chong Quan, President of the China Society for World Trade Organization Studies, Yu Zirong, vice president of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce, and Zhang Guohua, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
A keynote speech on COVID-19 and international trade, as well as WTO’s reform was delivered, and attendees also delivered speeches on a variety of topics.
At last, Werner Zdouc, head of the WTO Chairs Program made a concluding speech.
