SUIBE holds WTO e-commerce negotiation seminar backed by APEC

On March 24 and 25, the WTO e-commerce negotiation seminar backed by APEC was held both online and on the campus of SUIBE. The seminar was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and organized by SUIBE.

Mr. Wang Rongming, President of SUIBE, Mr. Yu Benlin, director of the Department of International Economic and Trade Relations of the MOFCOM, Mr. Shen Weihua, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Mr. Tan Hung Seng, Permanent Representative of Singapore to the WTO, Ms. Rebecca Maria, director of APEC Secretariat and Mr. Yi Xiaozhun, deputy general director of WTO, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Vice President Yu Xuemei of SUIBE and nearly 70 teachers and students from International Economic and Trade Research Institute joined the ceremony offline.

Mr. Wang pointed out in his speech that SUIBE has always been committed to China's opening-up, especially the development of foreign trade and economic cooperation since its establishment. The seminar will help APEC economies fully exchange information and views, enhance mutual understanding and bridge differences. It will also make positive contributions to APEC's efforts to promote the achievements of WTO e-commerce negotiations and support the multilateral trading system, and contribute wisdom and strength to the research on e-commerce and digital trade.



The meeting consisted of four units. The first unit discussed issues such as WTO e-commerce negotiations amid Covid-19 and the definition of terms related to WTO e-commerce negotiations. The second one focused on the creation of a secure and trusted e-commerce market environment. The third one focused on the facilitation of cross-border e-commerce and other issues. The last one focused on the promotion of practical and inclusive e-commerce development and cooperation. Mr. Song Yang, director of the sixth division of the Department of International Economic and Trade Relations of the MOFCOM, made a conclusion for the seminar
